While you can wash your knife any way you want (it is your knife, after all), we wanted to take the time to go over some dos and don'ts of knife washing so that your District Cutlery knife will last you as long as possible.

Determine Knife Material

The first step is to determine what kind of knife you have. Different materials need to be washed differently. If your knife is made of carbon steel, it should not be soaked in water for too long as this will cause rusting and damage to the blade. Stainless steel knives can usually handle a more rigorous washing routine, but it's still important to dry them off promptly.

Rinse With Warm Water

Once you know what type of knife you have, the next step is to rinse off any food particles or grease stuck on the blade. You can do this with either warm water or mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not use harsh soaps, as these could damage your knife's finish and make it susceptible to rusting.

Use The Right Tools

When scrubbing the blade, use a soft-bristled brush or a clean, soft cloth. You can use a mild detergent if you need additional cleaning power, but make sure to rinse off the soap completely afterward. Never put your knife in the dishwasher, and never use steel wool pads or other abrasive materials on it. Doing so can scratch the blade's surface and create an environment that encourages rust formation.

Dry Off Thoroughly

Once you have finished cleaning your knife, the last step is to dry it off completely. Wipe down both sides of the blade with a clean, dry cloth and make sure that all water droplets are removed. If your knife has an exposed tang, be sure to dry this off too. This will help prevent your knife from rusting and ensure it lasts as long as possible.

Store Properly

Once your knife is completely dry, you can store it in a safe place until you're ready to use it again. If you have multiple knives, keep them separate so that they don't get scratched or damaged. You can also use a knife sheath if necessary to protect the blade and handle from scratches and other damage.

By following these steps, you can keep your District Cutlery knives in top condition for years to come! With proper care, your cutlery will remain sharp, sturdy, and beautiful with minimal effort on your part. Enjoy the quality that comes from investing in a high-quality knife, and make sure to take good care of it!
