Maker of the Month: Yu Kurosaki
Yu Kurosaki Knives are the masterful creations of a celebrated blacksmith from Echizen, Japan, born in 1979, who grew up dreaming of crafting knives after being inspired by his father’s tales of local smiths at the Takefu Knife Village. Now a master in his own right, he forges stunning blades at the cooperative he joined after apprenticing under Hiroshi Kato, using steels like Aogami Super, SG2, and VG-10.

Amazing piece of art that knife is. Smooth, precise and very efficient when cutting a loaf or a bagel.
Excellent knife and a great buying experience. The craftsmanship is immediately obvious — the blade feels precise, balanced, and thoughtfully made, with the kind of fit and finish that shows real care went into the product. It’s clear this is not just a mass-market kitchen tool, but something made for people who appreciate quality.
I also really appreciated the knowledge of the person who helped me select the knife. They understood the product, explained the differences clearly, and helped guide me toward the right choice without being pushy. That combination of craftsmanship, care, and expertise made the purchase feel special. I’d absolutely buy from District Cutlery again.
Very nice quick service
The best customer service
Great service and selection.
Ryan is great at listening to you regarding your knife preferences and then does a great job of laying a selection of knives for you to handle. He does a great job of explaining varous steels, finishes and knife styles. I have bought a gyuto and a bunka, both of which were great selections that are a joy to use. The store has a nicely curated selection, including some with "cutting edge" steels, such as STRIX.
Sharp knives, quick turnaround, fair price!
I am not sure if there is a better knife sharpener in the Maryland DC area.
Quick professional service reasonably priced
Thank you, it’s perfect
As usual, I am happy with my purchases at District Cutlery. Ryan Swanson is very knowledgeable.
